Pic of the Week (#139) - Burlington Boy Rides Fake Horse (1919)

Every Friday The Psychogenealogist shares a "Pic of the Week." The intent is to encourage thought and imagination about the spaces where psychology, genealogy, and history converge.

My best guess is that this is from a very touristy locale around 1919 or 1920. It shows a boy riding a fake horse in front of a railway car. All we can read on the train is “RLINGTON”. I am guessing that it is “Burlington Railway”.

This photo was affixed to some black paper and appeared to be from an old vacation photo album. On the back of the paper that this photo was attached to there was another photo. This one:

“Cave of Winds” 1920

It seems quite likely that these photos were from the same trip and/or time period. Could “Cave of Winds” refer to this “natural cave behind Bridal Veil Falls at the Niagara Falls”?

It is hard to tell for sure, but the geography here looks similar to the one:

Cave of the Winds

Burlington is a town in Ontario, Canada about 45 miles outside of Niagara Falls.

Here is a short article about Rail History in Burlington.

That is my best guess! Do you have any others?

Questions:

  • Who was this boy and what is his story?

  • Do you think the analysis above is correct?

  • What are the alternatives?

  • What do you think, feel, and wonder about as you consider the photos?
