Pic of the Week (#150) - Winter in Vermont (1946)

Every week The Psychogenealogist shares a "Pic of the Week." The intent is to encourage thought and imagination about the spaces where psychology, genealogy, and history converge.

It has been an unusually early winter here in Detroit and much of the midwest. It calls to mind the many very beautiful vintage Kodachrome slides I have acquired from eBay, estate sales, and antique shops over the years. Like this one:

This is one of the earliest Kodachrome sets I have collected. One of the slides (below) in this set is labelled "Fay Tosi - Polly Catto, 1946".

"Fay Tosi - Polly Catto, 1946"

"Fay Tosi - Polly Catto, 1946"

Other notes from this set of photos suggest that they were taken in Vermont in the late 1940s or early 1950s.

Here are a few other photos from this same set. I threw in a warmer summer scene just to balance it out! I hope you enjoy them.

Questions:

  • Is the woman in the first photo the same as the woman on the left in the second photo?

  • Is it Fay Tosi? Who is she and what is her story?

  • Do you recognize the landscape, possibly in Vermont?

  • What are the earliest Kodachrome photo slides you have in your collection?

  • What do you think, feel, and wonder about is you look at this set of photos?
